A guide to Chicken Farm

Step 1: Layout
Begin by making three walls out of glass, each 10 blocks long and 2 blocks tall for a total of 54 glass blocks used. Be sure to leave the front open!

Step 2: Preparing for Water
Dig out an 8x1 trench at the front of the farm (the area you did not fill in with glass). Then, find the center two blocks in front of the 8x1 hole and dig out a 2x2 hole.

Step 3: Water
Grab two buckets of water and place 1 bucket of water at the far left of the 8x1 trench. Do the same thing on the right side.

Notice the water flowing towards the front. This water flow will be very useful later on in this tutorial, guiding the chicken eggs to the front so you can easily collect them!
Step 4: More Water!
You'll need a total of 5 water buckets for this step. You can just reuse the same few buckets over again, but that's up to you!
Walk to the back left of the farm, and place water at that back corner. Next, skip one block and place more water. Continue doing this all the way across the back wall of the chicken egg farm. Use the image below if you are having trouble with placement!

Step 5: Glass Panes
You'll need several glass panes. Fill the entire inside of your farm with them. Keep in mind that you will want to place the panes above the water you placed in the previous step.

For the front, place two levels of glass panes. This is the only place where you'll have two levels; the rest of the glass panes should only be 1-block tall.

Step 6: Raise Glass
Raise the glass perimeter by 1 block. Do this for all four sides, so don't forget the front! This brings the total height of the project so far to 4 blocks.

Step 7: Remaining Water
Inside the perimeter you just created, add water to all four corners. You'll need another four water buckets! After you're finished, if you look closely at the current, you can see it flows towards the center. This is the layer that the chickens will sit on, so we want the chickens to be forced into the center so that they cannot glitch out of the farm!

Step 8: Building Up the Walls
Now, build up the four walls about 3 blocks tall all around. This will help hold the chickens inside so your hard work will pay off! Your new height will be 7 blocks. The extra 3 layers you add here should be 3 blocks up from the top of the water.

Step 9: Optional
I personally like to build a little balcony of sorts off the back of the egg farm. All you have to do is add some stairs and a little platform.

Lastly, don't forget to add the fences! You don't want to accidentally fall into the farm, as you could potentially fall through the glass panes. To get out, you would have to break part of your farm!

Step 10: Throw your eggs in
Go up to your balcony and start throwing your eggs in. You'll notice that chicks will pop out, which means you have a bit of waiting to do before egg collection. Chicks take about 20 minutes (real time) to fully grow. Keep in mind that you will need to be logged in and near them in order for them to grow. After they turn into chickens, it will take about 7 minutes for them to lay an egg.
Once you have some eggs, feel free to throw them in!

If you throw a total of 8 eggs, there's a good chance that only one baby chicken will be spawned. The drop rate is pretty terrible, but once you get enough chickens in there, you will have infinite eggs (and infinite cake)!

You also have a 1/256th chance to get 4 chicks in one single egg!

Step 11: Cake!!
Behind my chicken farm, I have a little area set up so I can farm sugarcane, wheat and milk. The sugarcane is used to turn into sugar, which of course is an essential ingredient to cake!
